Mum And Daughter With 23-Year Age Gap are Mistaken for Sisters
Joleen Diaz is an elementary teacher who is actually a mom to 19-year-old Meilani Parks. But, this 43-year-old mom often gets mistaken for being her daughter’s sister and not actually her mother. The reason is simple; it’s because of Joleen’s incredibly youthful looks that she appears as if she is the same age as her daughter.
1. People wonder who the mom is and who the daughter is
The confusion between mother and daughter is further heightened by the pair’s close bond as well. They make it harder to tell who the mum is and who the daughter is because they like taking selfies together and posing in matching bikinis.
2. Meilani and Joleen are very close to each other
Joleen says: “We are very close. We do lots of things together- travel, shop, work out and sometimes just lay on the couch and talk”.
3. Meilani is okay with people thinking her mum is her sister
When people mistake her mum to be her sister, she doesn’t seem to take any offence. “I don’t think she minds,” says Joleen. “While she was growing up, she would often hear people tell me they thought her mother was her sister”.
4. Joleen had Meilani when she was very young which is why she gets mistaken for her sister instead
In spite of a huge age difference between mum and daughter, they still are mistaken as sisters. Joleen is 23 years older than her daughter but she said: “I was prettyyoung when I had her, so it’s not entirely impossible that we could be sisters”.
5. Joleen’s healthy lifestyle and skincare tips are the secret behind her youthful appearance
According to Joleen, her youthful appearance is the result of a healthy lifestyle and a good skincare routine. It’s one of the classic- there’s no easy-to-copy secret. She said: “I’ve always lived a healthy, active lifestyle.
I rarely drink alcohol, I get a lot of rest, and eat a balanced, healthy diet. I religiously take care of my skin, and everyday wash my face in the morning and before I go to bed”.
6. Joleen began taking care of her skin at a very young age
Joleen reveals how she started caring for her skin at a very young age: “I began taking care of my skin at a young age, around 12 or 13. My mom used to buy Mary Kay and I would secretly use her skin care products.A product that has shown dramatic change for me is tretinoin. Most people know it as Retin-A. I’ve been using it now for about a year and a half, and I’ve seen my skin just get better and better”.
7. Sunscreen is a vital part of Joleen’s daily skincare routine
Joleen’s youthful and radiant skin is a good example of why you shouldn’t neglect wearing sunscreen. It is vital to use sun protection every single day to prevent your skin from aging faster. Joleen herself shared how important it is to have a strict skincare routine which includes wearing sunscreen every day.
“I absolutely use sunscreen, every day, even on cloudy, rainy days,” Joleen says. “I also use a vitamin C serum day and night.’ ‘Having good skin gives me confidence, even on the days I don’t look my best”.
8. Joleen makes her daughter follow the same skin care routine
Meilani has also been following the same strict skincare plan of her mum’s. She too, in another 23 years-time will probably look the same age. Joleen, had Meilani start the same routine right around the time she was 12 which is the same age as when Joleen first strated the routine herself.
9. Joleen has a very pragmatic outlook on life which helps her worry less in life
Joleen’s ability to stay in the moment and not worry about the future is perhaps the easiest lifestyle choice to adopt for anyone seeking a healthy and stress-free way of living. “I’m pretty pragmatic, and try not to worry too much about the past or anticipate worries in the future”, she explains. “I live a pretty simple life and I’m content with what I have. I’ve had my share of (clubbing and partying) – these days I’d rather stay home, drink a nice cup of hot tea, and watch a good movie”.If you haven’t been taking the same kind of care of your skin, then don’t get disheartened because it is never too late to start.
