How The Perfect Male Body Has Changed Over A Century
Chiseled abs and firm pecs may be what constitutes the perfect male body in the eyes of the Western society, but that hasn't always been the case.
Pedal back an odd 150 years, and what was then considered perfect, would be overweight by today's standards, according to artist Nickolay Lamm.
Influenced by factors such as availability of food, changes in culture, and a number of other trends, variations in physical standards have been sharp since the 1870s, when a more rotund appearance was a marker of wealth and prosperity.
In a blog post on Lammily.com, Lamm has shared that it's not only women who have has to battle unrealistic body goals over time.
He uses 3D computer modelling to show the variations in body image standards over the years.
